Welcome to my blog about songwriting ideas. I have to confess that I’m not a songwriter but I am a writer and I have loads of ideas that might help people who wish to write songs and it’s all free so what the heck 
This site was inspired by the Wessex Folk Festival, one of my favourite folk festivals, which takes place around the Old Harbour and Hope Square in Weymouth, Dorset each year and their songwriting competition.

Wessex Folk Festival, Brewers Quay, Weymouth, Dorset
The Wessex Folk Festival is a not for profit organisation run by a committee of enthusiastic volunteers who work very hard to deliver a festival that I’ve always thought was one of the most friendly festivals on the festival circuit.
I’m not part of their committee but I do help them with the upkeep of their blog because I think it is a worthy cause.
The Wessex Folk Festival song contest is on a maritime theme so many of the ideas initially in this blog will be about sea, naval and sailing songs.
Any surplus of entrance money for the Wessex Folk Festival songwriting contest over the prize money will go to supporting the festival so entering the song competition, even if you don’t win, is still supporting a worthy cause.
At previous Wessex Folk Festivals, I have taken lots of pictures and I have included some of these with the song writing ideas to help you get an idea of what Weymouth Old Harbour area looks like, set in its maritime history, during the Wessex Folk Festival weekend.
I hope my ideas for songs help people who are thinking of entering the maritime themed Wessex Folk Festival songwriting contest however please remember, although I help with some aspects of the Wessex Folk Festival, I have no special knowledge of what will sway the judges beyond the Wessex Folk Festival songwriting submission guidelines which are available for everybody to read.
